Taurus Millennium G2 9mm: Rounds 461 – 660

The testing of the Taurus PT-111 G2 9mm continues with rounds 461 through 660. The goal of this project is to track the reliability and performance of the G2 through 2,000 rounds. No cleaning will be done however lubrication will take place each shooting session. Should the G2 begin to experience reliability issues with ammunition previously proven reliable then I will go ahead and clean it.

Taurus G2, 9mm, pistol

For this segment 200 rounds of “freedom seeds” was sent down range. No cleaning has been done so far, however, a couple drops of Rem-Oil were placed on the rails. A single failure was experienced. What occurred was in the midst of firing I pulled the trigger – there was a click – and nothing. I pulled the trigger again due to the G2’s double-strike capability – and the round(Winchester white box) did not fire. I ejected the round and the primer hit looked good. The round was then placed in another pistol and it did indeed fire.

Beyond this issue which I deem ammunition related – the Taurus has remained 100% reliable. No failures to feed. No ejection issues.

So – here’s the data through 660 rounds:

300 rounds Winchester White Box 115-grain FMJ bulk pack

160 rounds Independence 115-grain Aluminum case

50 rounds LAWMAN 115-grain TMJ

50 rounds Blazer 115-grain FMJ aluminum cased

100 rounds Blazer Brass 115-grain FMJ

There is a decent amount of buildup on the feed ramp and the chamber. Difficult to photograph I gave it a shot and you can take a look at the pictures below. Once I start to experience failures I will give it a thorough cleaning.

1340 rounds to go…..

I have a PT 111 G2 also. I don’t have 2000 rounds through it but I’d say about 450 without a problem. Although , I have cleaned it every time its been shot. I also have a 709 slim that hasn’t had any issue’s. Not as many rounds yet but so far so good.

It seems that the new fad of shooting a gun with out cleaning the weapon is really catching on.Several people are now “testing” different weapons without cleaning. I honestly do not understand this concept. Clean your weapon after each use. I trained my soldiers and my myself to clean our weapons often. Even in combat, we cleaned our weapons as often as the situation allowed. All my weapons get cleaned at least every three months whether fired in that time or not. Why is it now so popular to stop cleaning a weapon when used? I do not understand this practice. I call it laziness and a failure to be responsible.

Thanks for the comment Douglas. It is not being irresponsible or being lazy. It is merely a test indication for testing the reliability of a weapon. I – nor anyone else that I have ever seen – would ever suggest treating a firearm in such a manner that would be used as a self-defense tool. A firearm that shows the ability to shoot 2000 rounds with no failures with no cleaning is inherently more reliable than a firearm that experiences an average of 1 failure every 250 rounds with no cleaning. While both weapons may perform flawlessly with cleaning every 200 rounds the knowledge of potential failures as well as potential reliability is thr reason for conducting a test such as this.

Again – I would never recommend avoiding cleaning a firearm in this manner.
