From the Desk of John Rourke – April 28th, 2017

North Korea continues to stay in the news. By all accounts China seems to be seriously assisting with the situation. Regardless, we have a nutcase threatening all of us so to be completely dismissive would be an ill-conceived approach at best.

I received an email from the Nuclear Threat Initiative. They have put together a downloadable spreadsheet/database with information on North Korea’s nuclear initiatives. It is totally free.

The world continues to be more volatile, more violent, and continuously suspect.

The Preparedness Industry as a whole continues to shrink. Many companies that carry food storage and other preparedness supplies have seen major drops in sales. The election convinced many that everything will be just fine. Reading the headlines from most any news website should certainly convince many that relaxing is not the direction to go.

Interesting is while many Conservative preppers have calmed down their efforts there has been a surge in the Liberal population to get ready for the Trumpapocalypse….apparently.

Thinking of starting a Neighborhood Watch in my neighborhood. No particular reason except it should be done.

Before purchasing a free Kindle book on Amazon make certain the book is still free by making sure the price is $0.00. If it lists a price or says “read for free” or has a price for prime members the book is not free anymore.

Now is no time to stop prepping. If anything, all we have been granted is a little extra time. We all need to take this time to catch up and fill in the gaps.

I agree with Rourke that it would be very unwise to take NK threats completely as nothing. The psyhco child running that country could possibly do anything. However, China really holds the strings to North Korea and if they do not do what China says. It would CLEARLY be the end of North Korea.

I also agree with Oren, IMO. It’s not the time to stop. Rather we don’t have to rush around at Defcon 2 when hitlery seemed she would win.

“China has threatened Pyongyang with sanctions if the rogue government continues to disregard calls to stop conducting nuclear tests, which are seen as a provocation to its regional neighbors and the U.S, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said.”

China doesn’t want US and NK going to war. They don’t want trade with their fat complacent trading partner (us) to slow or cease. Plus, they don’t want NK defeated and reunified with SK. Having said that, this will undoubtedly be interesting to watch.

I won’t even comment on the prepping community, just disgusted in these so called “preppers” of today. The true survivalists are still plugging away as they always have, while these ‘preppers’ are just fair weather types going with current fad that has run it’s course. Even a couple of the local patriot groups have disbanded due to lack of people who lost interest after HC lost and their new savior took office thinking everything is just going to be fine now.

Before you start a neighborhood watch, go check out one that’s already up and going then talk to the local police about doing it and see what they have to say. There are actually a lot of rules with how they can operate and what they can do. I’ve just recently started to go to mine that’s about 6 months old and I may not go back. The guy who runs it use to be my zipcode team leader for county CERT team but the group of about 2 dozen people seem to mainly want to sit around and complain about them ‘damn kids’ running around the neighborhood. It was asked if people would be interested in learning about the CERT program and intergrading it into the neighborhood watch and out of the 2 dozen there, only 4 raised their hands (myself included). When I was active in our county CERT program, I helped speak/train at a few neighborhood watch groups. Most had NO clue they could be on their own for even a few hours or even knew what they could do during even a short term power outage.

Appreciate the advice jh. A friend of mine at work just started attending his in his neighborhood which is run by a cop. Very interesting information he provided.
