Knives, Shotguns……and Chocolate

I’ve never been much of a knife guy. Yeah….a bit odd for a survivalist, right? Rambo survived out in the wilderness and took down an entire police department with a knife so I should have more of an interest. I guess. Over the years I’ve had a few knives I really liked. Some I still have.

Explorer Survival Knife – made in Japan, original copy of the First Blood knife

CIMA Survival Knife – A very high-quality copy of the ESEE 3 knife. It does not appear to be made any longer and now costs upwards of $75.

Smokey Mountain Toothpick – I have a few of these including one that is brand new in the box. Great knife from my teenage years.

Gerber BMF Survival Knife – My favorite knife from my teenage years. I have one now and plan to keep forever. It’s a BEAST!!!

Next – chocolate. While Hersey’s is good I absolutely love the Cadbury’s Carmello candy bar. Long-term food storage should include chocolate. The problem is it does not keep well except dark chocolate – which I hate. Maybe the zombies can just eat me and get it over with.

Never been a fan of the shotgun. Likely a mistake on my part. I’ve had a few over the years and enjoyed skeet and clay shooting. I own two right now – a Mossberg Shockwave and a Stevens 320. The shotgun is probably the most versatile weapon that a civilian can own and while the AR/AK rule the defensive long gun market the shotgun is far too frequently overlooked. Those on a budget can come out very well for just a few hundred dollars.

OK – I’ve got my knife by my side, a shotgun on the wall ready to go – and a Cadbury Carmello bar about to sent to my belly.

Zombies don’t stand a chance.

That Explorer knife is pretty bad booty.
I also still have a Smokey Mountain toothpick or two somewhere. That was the cool knife to have, back in high school.
The original Gerber BMF Survival Knife is one of my grail knives. Tom Berenger used it in a movie I saw when I was a mere pup, and I have wanted one ever since.

We operate a small organic teaching farm near the outskirts of Eugene Oregon.

Prior to ‘this phase of this Economic Lock-Down [spit]’, Eugene hosted the yuge annual knife show at the county fairgrounds.
With over a thousand vendors from all over this particular planet, I always acquired a three-day pass for enough time to see everything… and chat with extra-intriguing folks.
“Say, what else do you have…”

I also hit my local-owned pawn-shops for interesting stuff.

One of my neighbors was Bud Lang, founder and editor of magazines such as Survival Knives, Tactical Knives, and several others, including probably Post-Apoch Cutters and Stuff For Cutting Stuff magazines.
Bud had a certain osmotic enthusiasm about knives.

Consequently, I own probably a couple-three hundred family heirlooms disguised as utility tools / utility tools disguised as heirlooms.

Every day, (supplementing the three complete sets of keys I always carry (all the time!)!), I have a Leatherman on my fanny-pack belt plus a razor-blade Milwaukee© folder in my left-front pocket.

My Milwaukee© folder also has a complete set of keys attached.
That might tell you something about me as ‘a fast learner’.
