It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these “recommended stuff” lists. Planning to make it a regular thing again as not only does it promote thought on needed supplies but people often comment with their own recommendations. I’ve found some good stuff just from the comments!
Here are a few things such as articles, videos, movies, books, and an assortment of gear. Some of these are related to survival & preparedness while others are just interesting. As an affiliate for some of the companies represented, we earn a small commission on purchases made after clicking any link from this website at no additional cost to you. Those purchases and commissions help support what we do here. Thank you!

Hey JR, I posted this before but I think it got lost somewhere, but what are your thoughts on synthetic winch rope. I recently picked up some in 1/4″, 50′. It’s super lightweight and extremely strong. I was thinking of keeping this in my BOB in place of actual rope. It does have its drawbacks, such as being damn near impossible to cut, but I wanted to see what you and the community had to say and if anyone else has given this some thought.
Appreciate all your work and comments. Congrats on getting the new homestead up and running and the gardens as well.
Thanks brother you are a vast source of knowledge and ideas.
Ernie Lubiani,
if it is what i think it is and can be broken down into strands, i think it would work great. depends on the load weight.
i used 3/8 cotton sash cord for 30 years on a service truck to tie down ladders and pipe on a rack, it never failed me. it’s my go-to rather than para cord. a 100ft roll weighs ounces.
best i can tell you is to try it under actual use, then you’ll know before you have to really have to depend on it. when things get bad is not the time to find out if something works or not.
best of luck with everything
Scout,
Thank you for the advice. I love hearing everyone’s input and comments. I learn so much from everyone.
