Time at the River

It’s important to get away from it all and enjoy God’s creation once in awhile. For me that is on or near water, out in the country – or up in the mountains. Recently spent some time on the Catawba River which flows through North and South Carolina. Got some fishing in and enjoyed watching my youngest explore the shore and shallows – in the water.

I’m often thinking that more time needs to be spent unwinding doing things like this then life creeps in and suddenly weeks have gone my.

Planning on going to a new location this weekend and hopefully will have better luck with the fish. Looking at picking up a couple kayaks as well. Many floated by me while I was waist deep and it looked like an awesome time.

When I was a kid I thought “time outs” were awful. Now .. IF someone sent me to my room to take a nap .. I might hug them and say thank you!!!.. 🙂 When you get roughed up on and work hard .. Jobs, family and life and then add preps you KNOW you need to protect your family .. I think we get very little appreciation sometimes .. No that our loved ones we protect don’t love us back.. but we try to create a life for them, and often the blissfully live it.. unconcerned because we are always there to fix it when it breaks.. kiss a booboo.. or listen .. Well in our preps we are working to provide for them regardless of the prevailing conditions, and in part if we are ever not there or not able to fix it. Hold fast to your resolve. Preparing doesn’t mean something will happen, it means you survive if it does… tornado, earthquake or something more pervasive (RBTL).

JR I’m glad you got a time out .. I’m going to take one next weekend . and drive to one of my “group” buddies and blow some stuff up down range.. Cruise a large gun show and come home.. and likely eat food that isn’t good for me. I expect to do some teaching and lots of learning .. sounds like work .. but I call hanging out late eating and laughing with old friends down time too mixed in there..

Sunny days . water, fish, tomatoes laughing babies.. it’s still a good world.. we just have some folks we need to teach or help move on .. (PC I guess)..

    Have an awesome week !

I fully agree. We are too busy today with the stuff life. Life is to short to only live to work. We all need R & R and most of us should invest more in fun . I read about a boy who went home for his father’s funeral. He found his and his fathers journal. On one particular day he read in his journal, went fishing all day, caught nothing, wasted day. On the same day his father wrote, went fishing, didn’t catch anything, best day of my life, spent it with my son! Perspective. Life goes too fast, make the most of it while you can! Keep Looking UP!

Jr-good for you -that river is beautiful. JBernDr Apt- ah yes how time changes ones perspective. Our wise Pastor of many years ago taught us how its very important
to schedule in ones recreation or we wont get it and by the time we do we will be
    over do.
This evening I sat and watched our pond with Gods critters-the beaver and geese and ducks and listened to the calling of the bull frogs-it was a very relaxing and meditative time.
All we really have are moments with one another and memories .. Lightning

Glad for you getting to recharge JR……water, it’s my favorite and the kayaking is a quick and easy way to get around in the water in good times,(and hard times too.) Think it would suit your family !!! We are doing the “recharge” with grandkids the past couple weeks. ( Though i need another recharge after visits as well most times….to choose one thing-teaching and loving on them-is to NOT choose another-NOT being able to influence and love on them.) They are why we prepare after all. Depending on the length of any given future”disaster”most of us”seniors”will probably not last to the end, especially if begun with any health problems. The time at hand is all we really have….using it up and enjoying 🙂
