My turn…..

Las Vegas Shooter/Conspiracy: I can’t get on the Internet without seeing someone stating for a “fact” that the Las Vegas shooting was carried out by the US government or some secret organization within it. It never ceases to amaze me how some guy watching a cellphone video in slow motion can totally expose a secret mission carried out by the most powerful government in the world. Man – my tax dollars should have bought better service than that!

No – I do not believe in any great conspiracy. Could there be more to the story than we know? Most certainly. Could there have been others involved? Absolutely. Could Paddock have carried this horrible deed out by himself? Easily. Regardless of what is stated on other websites, this guy did not carry out some highly complex tactical operation. He shot out of a window at a massive target – and missed ALOT.

Binary Triggers – With the pending gun control efforts the interest in binary triggers and other devices that help shoot faster has peaked. Binary triggers operate to fire a round on both the pull, and release of the trigger. Unlike bump fire stocks, the binary trigger can be a more effective combat multiplier to put rounds down range ACCURATELY.

One of the most popular binary triggers is the Franklin Armory BFSIII trigger. While on backorder, it is available from Optics Planet. Check it out HERE. These are not cheap. There’s a chance in the not too distant future they will not be available any further.

Antifa has peaked my interest, even though the are highly in organized (it seems) someone or something is funneling money to them. At the last few protest they have been to their gear has improved. They are now showing up with ballistic shields and protective helmets which is not cheap. There also has been deep discussion among the authority ranks about the possibility of them disrupting day to day goings. They are like the snake in the grass need to keep an eye on them and not get bit.

Why do the police in California have to go door to door, begging folks to evacuate? Don’t they see the flames and smell the smoke? Do folks really believe they can save their home with a garden hose? They risk the lives of responders for what? Everyone should have a preparedness Plan on what to do and where to go. Lives were senselessly lost in the fire.

Top of the binary trigger pile is the Echo trigger of which I purchased three and had mentioned in this forum. The Echo beats the rest because of the reliability built into the design. You caan’t out-run it like you can the others in the field. The Echo does cost a little more but in my view is worth it.

Good stuff. I ordered the Franklin as that was all I could afford. The Gen III is getting great reports especially if an ultralight bolt is used. Would love an ECHO.

  5. SingleMom says:

Have a suspicion there’s a squatter at our BOL. Don’t want to confront him/her alone, so I’m lining up a couple armed friends to go with me to check it out. Have a neighbor who keeps an eye on things, but he was told by a trusted individual that we were permitting someone to stay there. I hope I’m wrong.

    1. CaptTurbo says:

Yikes! be careful! That would be a real concern trying to maintain a BOL that is far enough away that you can’t keep a close eye on things. It would be a shame to lose your carefully set aside supplies and have your safe place compromised.

  6. Lightning says:

Capt. Turbo- As long as we fight to bear arms and make sure we vote to keep arms we will be ok. It is a daily battle though and the mentally deranged are not helping our cause.( like the Las Vegas sniper) I sense theres more to that story though.
Single Mom- good plan to take friends along. Please let us know how you do-scary.
I also cannot understand why people in Calif. dont run fast when they hear of those fires. I guess they hope it wont come their way.Very sad. I believe that some of those fires were initially set by terrorists trying to have us stretch our precious resources. I know the long term drought and lightning strikes can be causes also. Lightning

I the past I have bought copies of the current Shotgun Digest to keep up with values. It’s been a long time since I needed to reference prices though.

    2. goingray58 says:

Online sources give you a range of prices for sure.. however regional availability has something to do with price as well. An identical item can vary as much as 50% in cost in different regions…. given you aren’t talking about display quality .. but something to actually use …

Built a small wooden “cage” to hold about 50 ammo cans.
Inventoried and labeled all my ammo.
    Converted several flashlights to LED.
Been stocking up on medical supplies from Dollar Tree.
Rescued a nice mountain bike, discarded by a neighbor.

I’ve managed to find time to work on the Gov’t surplus genset I bought 8/9 years ago. Got it checked out, running and making power. Ordering the parts to make a distribution panel for it later today. Plan on making it run on Nat. gas and propane as well.
Just need to get a fuel storage plan going next. I have some decent 5 gal cans, as well as a couple 30 gallon drums my brother got from the dealership he works at (they had brake cleaner in them) to use for fuel storage.

… fall has everyone, man and animals alike, hurrying to be ready for the cold, snow and lack of readily available food. (Who says prepping isn’t necessary or relevant?) The season of changes, of gains and losses, is often approached with sadness, (not ME! i love fall 💚,) but it really is a season of promise. Seeds have formed to store up through the winter… store up the promise of new life, so that when the conditions are again able to foster the enormity of all things green and growing, the abundance is cycled around again. Rather like each day, first the morning of rising and going out to use our abundance of energy to tackle that chore needing done. Then as we settle in to the ebb and flow through the afternoon with steadiness and sometimes fatigue that drains, we find ourselves in the evening hours when we must set aside our task to wind down. The rest and replenishment of the night does more work to prepare us for the morning than we know. Our mind, body, as well as spirit, are new and ready for the day as our days, seasons and lives echo the design of flow we repeat countless times.

The frost will come soon, (it is long overdue already.) The sweet potatoes and last of the clover, dandelions and other “weeds” to dry and prepare have waited long enough. Even though the acorns are plentiful, the pecans were not so i am no longer battling the squirrels for them, (fattening the little critters up, just in case, hahaha.) Pears are the subject of the afternoon… minced meat pear butter, full of spices and flavor, mmmmmm.

Did pick up a bit of firewood, cut to length, needing split with the stack already waiting processing during the pleasant Indian Summer days to come. Had our first fire in the stove… reminding us how wonderful the simple life is.

i see 1776PatriotUSA has finally been moved up to #25 at Top Prepper Websites, after several days of being ahead in actual votes over the previous #25 site…. WOOHOO! CONGRATULATIONS! Going to have a look around the site John after you worked so hard on it. The links to the four”related”archived posts are quite often an appreciated blast from the past. i enjoy the review of information, and assessment of NOW compared to THEN and the resulting community of comments especially. Thanks for all you do to keep this community growing, vibrant and relevant!

Hurricane Irma turned our world upside down here in SW Florida but nature is so resilient! My trellis was loaded with Chines long beans and of course the hurricane flattened it. I cobbled the poor thing back together and the beans went back to producing. Unbelievable! Never saw such a bumper crop producer as those long beans!
Irma also smashed down 1000s of tons of live oak and sea grape trees. I do all my meat cooking with smokers. My favorite is the KBQ C-60. I managed to scarf up a bunch of that oak which I cut into short rounds since my KBQ’s fire box takes about 10″ splits. I ordered an electric 6 ton hydraulic splitter from Amazon which I hope to have in a few days or so to get going on my little treasure mountain of oak rounds. Lemonade from lemons right?

      1. joyce says:

Good to hear from you CaptTurbo…yes, lemonade indeed! Grilled/smoked fish, always wonderful. Hope your boat made it through the temper of that nasty Irma. Those yard long beans ARE quite good, glad a time saving crop is thriving. You have plenty to claim your time for the moment You, your wife and everyone else who is recovering from the storms take care to give yourselves leeway during the work of recovery.

        1. CaptTurbo says:

Thanks Joyce. My boat is still out of the water. I don’t see much point in launching yet. The water is a nasty coffee black and they are still dumping the toxic brew hard from Okeechobee. It has been a tough summer. Just after returning from evacuation I had a gallbladder attack while I was doing the bottom job on my charter boat. That put me in the hospital for surgery. I’m just now recovering from that nasty ordeal.
The days are still mostly scorchers here but the mornings are cooler. I can feel the season of Fall finally beginning down here. Lots of volunteer Ethiopian kale, amaranth, Everglades current tomatoes, and mustard greens growing all over the place. I have seeded Cherokee Purple tomatoes, Swiss chard, and collard greens which are all sprouting. Life will go on. No wife here but a few girlfriends and a lovely chocolate lab female. lol

          1. joyce says:

oops… so much for keeping you guys all straight 🙁 Nasty ordeal for sure, DH and i do our best to stay away from the doctor’s office but there are some things you can’t take care of yourself. Hope recovery progresses quickly without issue.

Harvesting, haying, seed saving, winterizing Animal pens and building new ones,, Getting ready to kill a bunch of non-producing chickens/ducks.. (leg bands). Caring for fall garden .. figs, zucchini, squash, pumpkin, several different types of tomatoes.. and a few second crop berries. GHB seasonal swap and upgrades,, built a shooting table and bench to zero for deer and hog hunting.. harvested honey (22 Gal – down 6 from last year)..

Evacuation.. tell em and let Natural Selection sort em out.. not to be insensitive, but dang!!.. inaction has consequences just like actions do.
If you have a BOL .. use game cams and alarms… people are inattentive.. or worse… I would take the Sherriff out with me or at least notify him .. If it is YOUR place, then let the law do the heavy lifting.. a confrontation and escalation just isn’t useful. especially if they are local and you aren’t. If you just happen to walk in on someone, or they on you it’s unavoidable, but this might be.. just sayin.. either way the privacy of your BOL is compromised… so be careful and add security if you can.

My purchases have been food, medical, and a few OTHER things..
