While we all benefit in some ways from modern technology, I do wonder what state our world would be in if we suddenly lost the electrical power necessary to keep our communications functioning.
Would the younger generations know how to grow crops to feed a family?
Would they know how to drop anchor and wait for the catch?
Would they know how to survive by the sweat of the brow?
New is good. Old is necessary.

I sincerely hope that parents/grandparents have passed life skills onto their kids. Basic carpentry, cooking, & gardening are life tools!
THanks.I always respected Bill G and support his legacy Samaritans purse.
THat quote is a good perennial question. AS a society I believe we were better prepared for day to day survival when we were farmers and tradesmen and woman .Technology has positives but it has created
A disconnect from physical work and self sufficiency in a larger portion
Of the US and worlds populations.
PAtience s a virtue that is hard to come by with such instant everything.

PS Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I recently was rear ended in an accident
By a man who wanted to drive away …I had gotten his license number and called the police. MY jeep will survive and I am grateful it was not worse but
He hit me hard and my neck and back and shoulders are really hurting.I did seek medical attention and I am now behind in necessary pre winter tasks so be careful everyone.
I’m proud of my two children. My daughter has the attitude that if it can be done, she can do it. Her Christmas and birthday present from my wife and I are usually tools. Yep, you read it right. When it comes time for any kind of face lift on her home, she does it. From new flooring on up. She installed an old hanging light fixture one time. Backed off and turned on the switch. Her comment was…”something about that thing just isn’t right”. She ended up calling me to talk thru her installation.
Our son helped out to build our home. A 3000 sq foot monster. We hand dug foundations, poured foundation, laid block for the foundations, tied and placed rebar mat’s, framed the structure, installed the plumbing and wiring. Etc., etc. I’m sure both of them will be able to make it if everything went dark. The one’s I worry about are the grand daughters. Our grandson is young enough not to worry about it yet.
ORen sounds like you did a great job of parenting. My daughter and son are also very handy. They were raised on the farm and we could not often afford to have someone else do the work.
I have taught the grand children how to bake and can and garden along with my DIL? I am currently mentoring them being bee keepers.
ROurke thanks for giving us food for thought. ARlene
