Quote: Loss of Modern Technology

While we all benefit in some ways from modern technology, I do wonder what state our world would be in if we suddenly lost the electrical power necessary to keep our communications functioning.

Would the younger generations know how to grow crops to feed a family?

Would they know how to drop anchor and wait for the catch?

Would they know how to survive by the sweat of the brow?

New is good. Old is necessary.

What a force for good. What a life well lived! I’ve always liked the Rev. Graham but had never heard the last quote from above:

“New is good, old is necessary!” Words to live by and a truth that will endure.

PR I totally agree with you. The world has been touched by this man called of God. We had some storms come through and a couple of my coworkers, in their 20’s, were without electricity for about 24 hours. They were talking about how they didn’t have light, a way to cook and they didn’t know what to do. The chaos would be tremendous! We must always prepare. Keep Looking UP

My three kids and seven grandkids would be going through technology withdrawls almost immediately should something happen to the grid. I don’t know if they could do anything without being shown how( AGAIN)! You know if they are holding an electronic device while you are explaining something, tell them to put it down and listen again. Chances are they did not hear you the first time. I know mine do not.

I don’t have children thank God & the reason I say that. Here is my favorite Albert Einstein image Quote, As it depicts everything Y’all have or will say on the subject :

Two days a week I do no tech and now watch less than an hours day or any TV.. That only for weather and local near city crime etc..
1.) When you go to dinner or lunch .. make it a tech free lunch.. ahead of time.. Cells go in the center of the table and and the first one to pick up pays the check. You;d be amazed how that makes people look up and talk. And it’s a little fun when someone on call HAS to answer.
2.) If wife or kids are doing a project with me .. cells go in the house and are not available while we work.
3.) vehicle if I am driving .. phones go away.. purse .. pocket whatever. If it’s kids I snatch it and tell them they can have it back when we get there. Not so much the wife .. that is more of a discussion.

I live and work in the tech industry 24×7 (New is good Part) and I am valuing the separation between it and the (Necessary part). Lately everyone knows and has learned I WILL return their calls. Si they have learned not to stress about it. You enable poor behavior by always being available.

We kind of had this in a chat on the site a while back. I will submit that if technology help you prepare and is used as a force multiplier of sorts it IS good. Anything else is a distraction form any goal you set.. IMO

We shoudl never discount the advice of the Experienced Godly advisers, they keep us grounded and whole. Reverend Grahams leadership and insight will be missed.. There are not many like him. Will there be again ? Of course, and exactly when and where they are supposed to be. The question is, will we be listening?
If we listen will we share? Of course .. bout 3%.

I like your system goingray58. I myself have had several times when on trips I tell the kids to put the phones up and look outside. “There are things to see, experience, learn, and remember if you just look.”

      1. goingray58 says:

I’ve made it a policy their entire lives (kids or wife), to not play anything when we drive to a from (except for long trips – they go to sleep and I drive and listen to books and podcasts). You never really schedule quality time you find it in quantity. We are so unused to silence people rush to fill it. and they talk. Happy or sad, mad or glad I want to hear it.
Rule of thumb 1: With girls I listen more than talk (hard for me) 🙂 with guys it’s about even. of course with kids and phones .. I pay the bill .. and i can turn it off .. that usually cuts short the protests.. Notice no where did I say they always like it. But it’s a good trade to know how they feel, and them to know how I do.. one on one.
Rule 2 Wives are way different. nuff said.. and there is not enough space here to write all about that even if I thought it was good idea 🙂

Great posts everyone.Phones and Tvs are tools. Humans need to control then -not vice versa. We always had a rule in our home-NO TV (or anything else now) on during meals-a time for sharing with those at the table after grace is said.
Another Einstein quote. “There are only two ways to view life. One as if nothing is a miracle and the only as if EVERYTHING is a MIRACLE. ” Amen to Einstein and to Billy Graham. . Has anyone had any experience with a solar generator? Thanks. Lightning
