“Life is full of surprises. One moment things seem normal, and the next, everything can change. We don’t get to know what’s coming or how long we have, so waiting for the “right time” can mean missing our chance. That’s why we need to go after what we want with energy and purpose. If life won’t give us guarantees, then we have to make our own path. We have to be bold, take risks, and keep moving forward—because no one else is going to do it for us.”
~ John Rourke
thats the reason we prep. we ain’t scared but we are ready. we sleep very well at night knowing that we will not go hungry or thirsty for a long while.
mother nature can be unrelenting sometimes. we have had our share of tornados here this year already , and possible hurricanes this year here in the deep south, we became debt free in 2010 but we are always getting ready for surprises.
those cans of sunshine anyone? and cyber attacks on our grid?
political, economic or enviromental events?
get out of debt and stack your pantries and supplies as deep as possible.
yea, you’ll sleep better at night.
it’s the best insurance against surprises large and small.
p.s
go outside and go primative camping, thats the best training that you can get. the wife and I have done that for 40 yrs, hiking and camping, and it served us well during hurricane Katrina. no water for a week and no lights in our area for a month. we did just fine with just very few problems.
you will never learn off grid skills from inside of the house on ytube
go outside and live for a few days at a time. it’s nice and peacefull. and you can always go home if the weather goes sideways : )
best of luck all
Excellent words Geezer. I work a full-time job as does Kass. Every day I come home around 5:30pm and she is in the garden, with the chickens, and often having grand kids in town. Amazing. I jump out of my truck and just try to keep up. Help with the chickens, help with grandkids, cook supper, and tend to some of the garden. We both do this as we see that our efforts now will pay off in the long run when things go bad.
What keeps me awake at night is an EMP.I don’t think that there is any
defense against that type of attack.
It will likely come unexpectedly and any recovery will take many years if
ever.
I’ve heard talk of hardening the grid but neither the utility companies
nor the government have done anything.
you are exactly right Chuck.
an EMP is the worse case senario possible to me. we have the ability to sustain ourselves for 5+ years or so depending on our health and weather (we are both well into our 60’s now). we stock a lot of what we can’t grow like salt, TP, jar lids, kerosine, etc.
but like the early pioneers and native americains, trade with other communities will become very very importaint at some point after. neither could have done it alone.
