This week my main accomplishment was the purchase of an ATN X-Sight II 3-14X Day/Night Vision optic. So far I am very impressed and will report pro’s and con’s after further evaluation.
Night vision is one of several preparedness critical items that I am focused on now. The old adage “Two is one and one is none” holds true with night vision as well thus a second device is needed. Possibly a non-weapons mounted thermal might fit the bill.
Here are a couple pictures from both day and night use from the X-Sight:

Shot another 60 rounds or so through my Springfield Operator 1911 while visiting my brother. An incredible piece of precision weaponry. Trigger pull is crisp and well below that of any other pistol I own. I tried taking a few shots at a range somewhere between 60-80 yards.
Here are the results of my 3 long range shots:
Fun day throwing 230 grain FMJ rounds down range.
OK folks…..your turn.

I’m looking forward to further comments. Now that I have moved to a 2A friendly state in the midwest from Kalifornia where these type of scopes are illegal.
60 – 80 yards….nice!
Thanks Oren.
John, when are you going to add to the projects section again? I like it, my wife does not. She says it gives me too many ideas. Oh well. Lot like me going to Lowe’s by myself.
Oren – thanks for letting me know. Additions and updates to the Project section will occur randomly. I will post an announcement whenever something is added. I may publish it as a separate post as well.
First prep in a long time, I got a new cheap pro-tech ankle holster for two old Beretta mouse guns in .22 and .25. Practice with cheap .22, carry .25 in my very gun unfriendly state but legal state.
I too have night vision, but not for a gun sight, but for observation of the areas around us.
Also have you “guys” thought of air rifles for your hunting needs? I have several & can drop a deer at 125 yards with 2 different ones & any med. sized game with 2 more & small sized game with even more. I can also produce my own pellets [much like the early militiamen did] and I can carry hundreds of pellets for the weight of only a few of your larger center fire ammo.
Hi Mike – I do have several air guns but nothing even close to powerful enough to kill a deer. What kind do you have? Impressive!!
I have a Hatsan AT44sQElong [.25 cal PCP] Hatsan Model’s 125 [mech spring] & 95 [gas spring] also in .25, Hatsan Alpha Striker youth [mech spring] .177, Benjamin Model 392 [multi pump] .22, Crosman 1322 “Backpacker (built up from pistol) multi pump carbine .22, and some sort of a chinese under lever mech spring in .177
The AT44sQElong can reach out & drop a deer at a 150 yards & the model 75 yards or so. So with this collection I can put meat on the table in various sizes . Also I am not dependent on carrying regular ammo, so I can carry hundreds of pellets compared to the “powder burner” ammo. Next on my list is a mold so I can make my own pellets like the the early military & explorers did.
Picked up some 55 gallon pickle barrels, cleaned them with peroxide and baking soda, seemed to work. Canned some tomatoes, sauce, beans, squash, peaches and made some jellies and jams. Froze some other fruits and jellies. Sold a gun and ammo, bought some silver. Lots of rain here along with cooler weather. That is all. – Keep Looking UP
I have some pickle barrels and have struggled getting the smell out. Might try your method.
I have a TRP… Agree… if you put your finger on the trigger, you better mean it….
Dehydrated some bell peppers, froze 2 5gal buckets of tomatoes and continuing with the purge and reorganizing. One thing I’ve done was start going through the ammo cans, counting what’s in there then when finished putting a zip-tie on it to know I’ve already inventoried it, separating the steel training ammo from the brass too. I did go to a gunshow and flea market, picked up a pair of hand axes for $10 (one a Plumb BSA marked) and a hand scythe modified with a long handle for $2, then at the gunshow bought a spare AR extractor, gas rings, found a magazine been looking for and picked up a half dozen USGI earplug & cases to add to all the ready harnesses.
Mike, thanks for the info on air guns.
got one LPK, canned several types of tomato recipes, freezing more, processing figs, harvesting end of year seeds for squash (several types), melons, tomatoes, cukes.. . Hatched another 70 or so quail, began prepping for a batch of ducks (Khaki), Added some lighter options for BOB contents.. Added a new 3 day pack with a place for type 3 plate.. Added a vest.. corn is a wash with no rain and deer.. waiting on sorghum and millet for feed to see how that turns out.. Of course if the deer keep their new Habit (pond for water .. and my patch for corn).. I’m going to add another step when it cools off .. and use my meat grinder shortly thereafter.. added bits and pieces of other goodies.. practicing my per sec .. I’ll just leave that there.. we’ll call em golf clubs and golf balls. . various sizes.. We are working at ways to preserve eggs.. we have a huge surplus at the moment.. freezing them in ice cube trays and bagging them seems to work .. as long as we have electricity.
