What’s the #1 preparedness advice you’d offer someone?
Build an emergency fund. In most of the emergencies I’ve experienced in my life money was the tool that helped the most. Unemployment, unexpected medical bills, car repairs….whatever – money is the tool that solves the situation.
Start with a small goal of $500 – then go to $1,000. Next up $2,000. Keep going. Every single paycheck pay yourself first. This means before any bills are paid throw SOMETHING under the mattress or in the savings account. $5.00 is something. Every penny saved is a step in the right direction.
For backup power what is your suggestion for a person living in the suburbs just getting started?
The simple answer is a high-quality generator. Size would be dependant on what is needed to be run. A small 2000 watt generator will keep a fridge or freezer going plus charge batteries, cell phones, and more. A small generator is quiet(should be), and portable. Good things. If a larger generator can be afforded go that route.
A small solar power system of 300 watts and a few deep cycle batteries would do well to power a small refrigerator in complete silence – as well as charge devices.

Yes – two boys: 22 and 18.

What projects are you working on now?
One of my biggest self-criticisms is my habit of working on too many projects at one time and finishing none of them. Ugh!!
I recently installed a CB in my truck. This was planned for months and I finally got around to it. I’ll post elsewhere on the install. So far I really like it. Only issue is I should have bought a premium antenna wire. I’ll order one soon and replace it. No biggie. I plan to install a handheld 2M ham radio with a booster as well.
I also have accumulated the supplies to build a small power box. This will have USB ports, a power port, and an AC plug with an inverter. I want to make a couple of variations and have solar panels for recharging.
Living life as happy as possible is a project in itself!
Do you believe in Bigfoot?
Ever since I was a kid I’ve been fascinated with Bigfoot. I’d like to believe there is a chance a few of them could be existing somewhere, however, I know the chances are extremely slim. It’s fun to think about it.
I’d like to see a megalodon as well!
Can the United States be “saved”?
No. This country is far too gone to recover. The only thing that can happen is for it to either continue to whither away to something that is unrecognizable compared to its prior greatness, or a “reset” will happen. I see no peaceful path which will bring the country together united nor any means which the national debt could ever be paid back.

Are you planning on voting in the next Presential election?
I’m pretty fed up with the system and pay just enough attention to politics just to know what is going on. For decades both sides have been corrupt and it simply hasn’t mattered which side was in the White House or controlled Congress. They both led us to where we are. Will I vote? Right now I have no plans to participate in a system that is fundamentally broken. I do, however, reserve the right to change my mind.
