To those unfamiliar, “86” is widely recognized slang for “killing” or “getting rid of” someone. Pairing that with “47,” a reference to Donald Trump potentially becoming the 47th President of the United States, raises disturbing implications. Whether intended as a veiled threat or tasteless innuendo, the optics are inexcusable in today’s deeply divided climate.
We live in a country where multiple attempts have already been made on President Trump’s life, and violent rhetoric from the political left continues to escalate.
