From the Desk of John Rourke – November 1st, 2016

The situation and tension between Russia and the United States continues to be eventful. Late last week it was reported that on October 17th there was a near miss in Syria where Russian and US military jets had a near collision.  How close? Within a half mile. Might not sound like a big deal but this involves two countries involved on opposite sides of a conflict…..that have massive amounts of nuclear weapons. Any type of direct conflict  – even accidental – would be very dangerous.

Enjoying the cooler weather as we head into my favorite part of the year. That time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is so special to me. I wish my parents were still alive so I could tell them about all the memories I have from my childhood during this time. They did a great job making my childhood memorable.

I have been off Facebook for a month or so. Found it was not a valuable use of time and find I really do not miss it. I deactivated my account so I can get back on when I feel like it. Will likely jump back on between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Working on a review of the Imalent DN12 1000 Lumen Flashlight. Taking some nighttime pictures right now. One of the most unique flashlights I have ever had. Beyond the powerful 1000 lumen beam the light is dimmable from 1000 lumens all the way down to 1 lumen. I have never seen this before. Pretty cool.

For $50 it’s a solid piece of equipment.

Recently heard that over 15% of Venezuelans get part of their diet from the trash dumpster.

Folks – go to Sam’s or Costco and buy 100 pounds of rice. Today.

Hey Rourke, good to see you getting the upswing on some things and getting a reprive. I’ve been doing the same thing pretty much on FB. The accounts there, but meh. I didn’t realize how much time I was spending “talking until I was blue in the face”, if you will. Until I stopped going there. And I didn’t go on there every other minute or every other hour either. I just mean in general.

Remember the Beggin, bacon dog strips commercial? Just change it to, Flashlights…..flashlight, flashlight, Flashlights..!!

On another note. Trump’s pulled in front, (this week). Regardless, my life is not dependent on polls, emotions from others, or outside influences. The reason Navy Seals are the elite is not just the physical and tactical training. It all…starts…in the mind. Not some cheap Tony Robbins, motivational junk. When your reaching for that alarm at 5:00 am. Your mind is already telling you it’s to early before you hit that button. The button that you set for a reason. Get up and Fight. Make up your mind and move forward!

Well John, just to put that near miss of a half of mile in perspective….if a mile is 5280 feet, so they missed by approximately 2640 feet. Assuming the closure speed of the two planes combined at sonic speed of 1100 ft per sec., the two pilots had about 2 seconds to respond. That’s a close call if they were in fact closing on each other.

This war of Obama’s has both the US and the Russian public concerned about escalating into WWIII. Since I live within 5 miles of one of the reported Russian nuclear targets (Oconee Nuclear Power Plant), I don’t think I’ll put that on my worry list.

    1. Fred C says:

Well Oren you may have given me something to be concerned about! I didn’t know or think about the Oconee Power Plant. After reading your post I checked the distance to my bug out land and it is about 50 miles. With the wind in the wrong direction that would not be good!

Russia .. hard to admit.. has a point.. We want to have our cake and eat it too.. for many years now. We want to tell folks what to do, but don’t back it up anymore.. doesn’t work that way. We have been paying money to people to be able to tell them what to do.. Russia doesn’t work that way.. never really has.. and I admire their view of not caring what someone else thinks if they want to do what they think is right for them. It’s sad that I have to look to Putin to admire that behavior and not our president. We used to do that… We should have a pair and tell the UN to debark, and shut up .. as well as others.. but now we have to smooch up to them because we have a terrible deficit.. so the and or the bank (IMF) is beginning to pay us t tell us what to do ..
    Sound familiar ?

Ya know Capt. I find that when it’s something I don’t WANT to do .. I an tap out 4 alarms and never know it.. When I want to or need to I’m there before it’s done almost. Fight, hunt, family .. I have never slept heavily and less so now I’m a little older.. AND there are those “I’m wearing a nice shade of “slept like crap” so don’t mess with me”.. Yup Mind and Body.. Psycho Somma,,, “Move your a__ and your heart will follow” as I was told. Either way motivation is an inside job.

I’m still on FB .. I get a lot of intel on my kids that way .. they are older .. but I like to know .. The down side is that non-productive PO’d mode is frequent .. absolutely.

Ya know .. we have two Costco’s local .. and I have yet to find 100 lb bags of anything
Of course if I go on-line (since the deliver free over X $$ ,, I don’t see the 50lB flour bags or the 25lb sugar bags I see local either

    ah well
Think I’m going to look into cash n carry or some local wholesalers..
We have an Aldi .. but it’s in a place where I need long and short golf clubs on my person.

    1. JR says:

Thanks GG58. Regarding the rice – I by 25 and 50 pound bags of rice at SAM’s. Yeah – FB is good for keeping up with friends and family. When I get back on that is what I will use it for. It is a waste of my time to try to pull people from the dark to the light.

One should always consider the other sides point of view. I would suggest the following sites for some insight:

    ‘The Vineyard of the Saker’

Also would recommend ‘cluborlov.com’ by Dimitri Orlov

No one wants war. The Russians are preparing because our government makes them the bad guys. The neocons are in charge of our current regime, and if killary gets in, war is what they want. They will sacrifice EVERYTHING, i.e. your family, friends, everyone.

Russia is not a 3rd world country like all the other countries we have ruined. They will not be intimidated. Look up their history. And they have the means to back it up.

Putin is a nationalist. Russia first. What do we have? obummmer. Wants to give a blow job to the entire world in exchange for some ill conceived, conceited vision of himself.
We the People do not matter.

We have a potential leader in Trump. Another nationalist.

He does not want war. He wants us All to move forward and prosper. He puts his very life on the line for us.

We need someone who actually participates in reality.

    Peace is ok.

We can no longer attempt to be the bully/policeman of the world. It is not in anyones best interest.

Let us all be sane for a while. It will not hurt anyone.

Our enemy is within our midst, not across the border, but right here. Reject them.
