Well, it’s been a few beers since my last update and a whole lot has gone on in the last several weeks. While it has been far too long since I’ve posted – I’ll be getting back to my regular schedule very soon.
Let’s get to it…..
As of February 9th, I am permanently in the state of Maine. Maine Prepper Girl had gone ahead of me in early December working on finding us a place to live. This has not been an easy task as many people with homes for sale in Central Maine winterize in the winter and then reopen in the Spring. In other words, the selection is limited. After spending several weeks searching and looking at various properties she found the right one. During this entire process I was in Kentucky and getting lots of links, descriptions, and pictures of homes. We finally settled on a small cabin on 5 acres. This A-frame home has a large loft as well as a separate garage and another storage shed. The town it is located in has a population of 1050 people which is just what we were looking for = low population density.
We move into the cabin this coming Wednesday.
We are very much looking forward to making the cabin our forever home. For the past 3 years, I’ve been living full-time in a camper and I’m so ready to get back to gardening, solar projects, building raised beds, organizing our preparedness supplies, and getting back into some regular routines. For those who may not know – I’ve been in South Carolins, Georgia, back to South Carolina, then to Kentucky over the last few years. I’m ready to stay in one place.
As far as survival & preparedness – my belief in the need to take intentional and logical steps to prepare for what awaits us around the corner has not waivered the least bit. If anything the last 3 years have generated an increased desire to prepare and that is exactly what will happen. Additional food storage will be a major project in addition to setting up garden plots. Pressure and water bath canning will preserve crops and we are looking into buying a freeze drier.
The immediate future will be filled with moving into the new place, getting organized, and working on the cabin as there are some things that need attention with it. I’ll be posting here, on Youtube(switching to Rumble soon), as well as in other places very soon.
Take care and talk to you very soon!

I can’t imagine living that far north but then I’m still paying a horrific price for living in “paradise”. I spend my days rebuilding my home after the storm surge of September 28th. Never knew I had so many walls until I had to be replacing them myself. I should be a pretty good sheetrock man by the time I get them all in and then it will be time for mudding 101. Can’t even think far enough down the line to get to tile work so I can have floors again.
Congratulations on the move! Part of me thinks you’re nuts for moving that far north, but part of me is very envious. Can’t wait to hear the updates as you get settled in.
Farther north than I want to be. I’m NH. Not a fan of winters as I get older. See how long I last before I head somewhere south some to be in a warmer climate. Brrrr. So did you guys find decent jobs up there?
Thanks RC. Maine Prepper Girl found a decent job – I found one that pays the bills. We’ll see what happens….LOL.
I want to add — Don’t be too proud to get some driving lessons from MPG. It takes time and experience to learn how to drive on snow and ice, and whatever you might have come across Down South won’t be anything like Maine.
LOL…..thanks for the advice SingleMom. MPG enjoyed it. I actually have a good amount of experience driving in the snow from my time in New Hampshire.
I also offer congratulations. Hope it turns out to be everything you’ll have hoped for. Also would be nice to know MPG’s first name.😊
And you’ll will be close to the largest lobster area so will be a nice drive to get some fresh seafood.
Hopefully you will be posting some pics of some of your acreage.
Good luck and stay well!!!
Thanks Jan. I think MPG will be posting something. I’ve tried to get her to create her own website so she could write and share thoughts on survival & preparedness from HER perspective. I’ll certainly be sharing experiences and progress here.
I spent 3/4 of my career working as a Construction Manager for two large international engineering and construction companies. My wife and I decided that if we ever found somewhere we liked better than the upstate of SC, we would move. I really liked the Arrowhead of MN. Great people. But the older I get the move I realize there is something to say about the milder winters in SC. I retired in 2012 from a very large steel mill in Alabama. Never looked back. Now, at 76 years old I have found I am anything but immortal. I have my garden, chickens and dog. Thank God I have my wife.
Best of luck to you John. Hope everything works out.
Thanks Oren!!
Congratulations and I wish the best for you both.
Thanks Fred!
John, best of luck to you and MPG with the new home. Moving in the winter is not nice, been there and done that in NH, but watching the deer from the the living room window was great. Listen to Single Mom about driving lessons up there. Also watch the drivers, when I lived in NH the Maine drivers were called Maniacs😊😊😊😊
LOL….thanks JohnP. I lived in New Hampshire back from 89′ through 96′.
JR, good to see you found your home. Its beautiful up there and your small town neighbors should be nice. My wife and I have 10 acres in the Clyo here in Ga. Thanks to you we have chickens, etc, and close to being fully self supporting. Keep up the good work and congratulations!
Thanks George. I was a bit north of you in Florence, SC for a couple years. Glad to here of the chickens. We’ll be doing that soon. Keep prepp’n!!
Good to hear from you.We we’re getting worried.
Thanks Chuck. Sorry for the time away. I’m back. More to come soon.
I’m getting old, forget that, stay safe.
So where abouts in NH? I’m in the lakes region just north of Center Harbor and west of Moultonborough.
Milton and the Stafford, been in Middleburg, F L since 2005.
