Been taking my practice test for ham license over and over again. Still not passing. If I can’t improve pretty quick will delay taking the exam until February. Sooner or later – it’ll get done.

So – what’s really at Area 51? I’m thinking the Colonel’s Secret Recipe from KFC. Maybe.

Nationwide internet. Free college. Solar power for every home. All these are big government ideas that we all know will end in failure and cost WAY more than estimated. Too bad as each could provide serious benefits to the country. It’s possible – just not probable to get it done efficiently and effectively.
With a limited pool of questions (and all the questions and answers are published on the FCC site) you may be self-defeating if you are taking and retaking the same test. There are a number of websites that have practice tests that you might try to get a bit more variety in your study material and test pool of questions. Good luck!
Are you using the ARRL study guide? It comes with a disk (or maybe just a link to a website) that varies the practice exam questions. Are you going for Technician or are you trying for General or higher?
John, this was the site I recently used, studying the flashcards. I felt it was much better than using the books that I bought at first. It’s free, each question gives a short explanation or helpful hint to remember the answer, etc. It made the process pretty easy….give it a try!

austx has it right. That’s the best study guide. When you test, assuming you pass at the Technician level, the examiner should allow you to take the General, and possibly, the Extra if you pass the General. Good luck, and join a club or get to know others so you can practice. It in extremely enjoyable hobby and will be an invaluable skill if there is no other means of communication available.

I learned from Gordon West books and audio courses, plus used an ipad/iphone based computer testing app that help track areas I had trouble with. It would ask more questions in bad areas and ask fewer from good areas. I must say I really like Gordons books & audio for explaining things, better than the ARRL books. He made it more interesting and explained ways of remembering it for the test.
I would recommend anyone continue from Technician without stopping, and get at least to General. I kept at it and made it to Extra, which allows wider use of frequencies on a band-by-band basis. Getting licensed was the start, then the learning really begins as you work with a radio, coax, antenna, grounding, Bands, protocols and many other aspects.
All – thanks for the comments. I have been using a phone app to take the test over and over again – it has really helped. It learns which questions I “master” and then expands the question pool so eventually I will get through all of them.
With my limited time taking these practice exams over and over until I have mastered all questions will just take some time. I’ll get it.
My class starts in Jan.. maybe we’ll chat after Christmas ..

John, I too used hamstudy.org, studying flash cards then taking practice tests. I’m ready for both the Technician and General tests which I will be taking on Tuesday. Highly recommend this site
