This post on the Coronavirus. is being published on the evening of January 27th, 2020. For the absolute latest information on the outbreak both in China and worldwide visit a variety of news sources such as the BBC, Fox News, and the CDC website.
As of today, there is a growing sense of concern as millions of people in China are being quarantined, thousands are suspected to have contracted the virus, and over 80 have died. There are 5 confirmed cases in the United States. The good news is it appears early in the outbreak China has taken massive and appropriate actions to reduce the chance of spreading.
What is Coronavirus?
Direct from the CDC website: 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China. Early on, many of the patients in the outbreak in Wuhan, China reportedly had some link to a large seafood and animal market, suggesting animal-to-person spread. However, a growing number of patients reportedly have not had exposure to animal markets, indicating person-to-person spread is occurring. At this time, it’s unclear how easily or sustainably this virus is spreading between people.
Why be concerned?
It is too early in the outbreak to accurately determine the longlasting health effects on those inflicted. Early indications are that beyond severe illness, the death rate rest at around 14%. As the situation develops this number could be highly inaccurate. For reference, Ebola has a 90% fatality rate.
Initial Coronavirus cases led disease specialists to believe transmission was limited to animal-to-human. As the virus has spread it has become apparent that human-to-human transmission is now occurring. How contagious is the virus?
Unknown.
What is especially dangerous about this virus is that symptoms do not begin to show for 7-14 days, however, the carrier remains contagious during this time period.
How to prevent infection?
Prevention is a must!! The key to infection control is to eliminate the ability to come in contact with any bodily fluids from an infected person. Respiratory droplets(from sneezing and coughing, etc.) must be avoided.
From CDC.gov:
Steps to Preparing
The key to preparing is preventing contact. With this in mind stopping the virus from entering your mouth, nose, and eyes is critical.
- Wear a mask such as a 3M N95 mask or a respirator of some type.
- Face shields, safety glasses, and swimming goggles can reduce the chance of contact.
- gloves and other coverings should be used to prevent contact.
- Disinfectant solutions such as Clorox and hospital-grade wipes to clean surfaces.
- Be prepared to disinfect any and all clothing.
There is plenty of detailed information available all over the ‘net specifically on living in a pandemic. Google it.

The coming weeks will tell the tale as to how severe the Wufan Coronavirus becomes. Let’s hope it’s contained and soon becomes a non-factor.

My advice: Learn to make your own ionic / colloidal silver (it’s simple and easy) and buy a good nebulizer. Smoke meat, drink beer, relax, and be happy.
@CaptTurbo,
I think colloidal silver is useful as a topical agent against infection, ingestion via GI tract or inhalation via nebulization may present some problems, especially over the long term. The condition that results is called argyria, and the consequences are your skin becomes permanently blue. So caution advised. Drinking beer, and relaxation sounds great. Thanks. Links below.

I think I will take my chances with the virus rather than being BLUE for the rest of my life.
and when first case shows up in your town, keep family home and live off preps.
This site maintains an up to date listing of all confirmed cases world wide. They include patient status and number of deaths. Last update 15 minutes ago, 4,578 confirmed, 106 deaths.

Basically the same precautions that prevent the FLU.. The real difference is that you can transmit it and be asymptomatic. So the measures they are taking are wholly inadequate. Did you know the Spanish American Flu that killed about 1/3 of the population (circa 1903), had more than one wave? First wave was a normal-ish flu. then it mutated and the mutation produced a second wave that was much more virulent, and cause may more deaths.. That second wave was the big one. As long as this one is some what controlled.. it will burn out. I’m personally avoiding gatherings and elective doctor visits as well as masks when I go. .(sick people go there ). Stay safe guys.
Good stuff GG58. I also hope this burns out with time.
Going Grey and Vicki-thanks- wow exc. inf.
We may be in for a world pandemic that will drastically cut the human over population and then the survivors will continue on. This may be a bio terror virus.
Please read BITTEN by Kris Newby. ( non- fiction) It proves how Lyme disease was released and helps us understand how these lethal viruses are possible.
All we can do is stock up on our supplies including masks, gloves, bleach etc. and PRAY !! Arlene
I have been prepping for over 30 years. Don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. These days, I think I am more concerned with the political hatred in our Country. I have never seen it this bad. The U.S came together after 9/11. I don’t believe that would happen now.
I agree with Vicki. Those of us old enough to remember 9/11 are just shaking their heads in disbelief with the lack of Patriotism and understanding what these United States have stood for. While this country is far from perfect, what the Founders sacrificed for has been reduced to a pale comparison to what it should be.
Political corruption is mostly to blame.
JR: Add to the “Blame List” the following America Haters.
Communists,Socialists,Globalists,Progressives,AntiFa,
Liberals,Southern Poverty Law Center,and don’t forget
the Democrats.
There is only one way to stop them and save our
country and way of life.
Arlene: Hopefully you are open minded enough to read the article on How Stuff Works
website. The title is”Was Lyme Disease Created As A Bioweapon.”The author is one Nathan Chandler and is dated 8-26-19.
Conspiracy theories rarely survive the light of publicity.I feel that Ms. Newby saw an
opportunity to grab a headline using flawed science and fear mongering.
We should stay focused on the many verifiable currently threats to our survival.
I have a military bud, who’s wife got caught in Japan by the Coronavirus, flood of Chinese. She reports that ALL anti-viral supplies have disappeared and Japan Is swamped by Chinese visitors that are refusing to go home for fear of quarantine. The Japanese are freaking out (and this from people that shrugged off Fukishima)! Chinese reporting is lies. They have already lost control of it, due to the contagious/non symptomatic nature of the virus. A short search on my part shows that anti-viral supplies are disappearing worldwide, including Amazon. Many things marked ‘unavailable at this time’ or ‘available at such and such date’ down the line. Just a FYI, this is a dangerous bug, almost a designer bug. 9PM 1/29/2020
Sounds like pure hell. Just received a report that 81,947 are under medical observation in China! Total infected world wide 7,814, 170 deaths. 5 confirmed in U.S. and I am working to confirm 1 new confirmed in Arkansas. That is if you can trust numbers out of China. I don’t.
Folks might wish to pursue making an elderberry syrup which has been subjected to extensive reviews in the scientific community in regards to its efficacy and found to help attenuate and ameliorate the symptoms of influenza viruses. It will not prevent the infection but does help once you are symptomatic. I personally have used it for a few years and it definitely helps. The recipe is simple:
2/3 c elderberries
3 1/2 c water
2 Tbsp fresh ginger
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp whole cloves
~1/2 to 1 c raw honey
Place all ingredients sans honey into a pot, simmer 45-60 min until reduced in volume by half, cool, strain, add honey. Store in refrigerator. Dosage 1 Tbsp 3 times a day, start it the first sign of symptoms. Elderberries can be purchased dehydrated, organic from amazon, 1 lb ~ $25, That will make quite a bit of syrup. And it doesn’t taste bad at all. Hint, add the honey while it is still warm, easier to mix in.
Some good info on the corona virus can be found on Chris Martensens site, peakprosperity.com. Also I think it is doubtful that this is a ‘weaponized’ virus as some are alluding to, it just isn’t lethal enough, at least from reports that are available currently. I would expect population densities of the elderly will be hit the hardest whether its nursing homes or countries such as Japan, and folks with chronic medical conditions also. All food for thought. Stay safe.
