From the Desk of John Rourke – July 10th, 2017

Mentioned the other day about an AR pistol build I am working on. I ended up ordered the Sig SBX brace although I very much like the Shockwave Blade. Why the Sig? Because. Yeah – that’s it. Just wanted to try something different. Worse case if I hate it I’ll sell it and get the Shockwave.

Looking at an optic for the above mentioned AR pistol had me wanting to do something different than what I have done in the past. My favorite AR pistol optic is the Bushnell TRS-25. Looking for something different I came across a Sightmark Wolverine CSR Red Dot. First-hand reviews are good. It has a 4 MOA dot which is a bit big. We’ll see.

I think Sightmark is similar to Condor. Condor used to be a name that went with “airsoft” quality. Not anymore. Sightmark has been turning up their game.

Was in Wally World and saw they had 9mm brass ammo for $9.97 for 50 rounds. Excellent deal. Had to pick up a couple boxes.

What a weekend. Busy!! Spent Saturday going down the Catawba River. Some in the group kayaked while others went down in floats. Ended up baking in the sun for close to 5 hours. Going down the river is very peaceful and relaxing – though I am worn out afterward.

We were in Wally World on Saturnday. They still had the Fed 9mm for 14.97. Needless to say, we left it there. I am noticing pricing changed from store to store a lot.

Coming home from that trip the radiator starting leaking in the jeep. I dropped it off at the shop on Sunday. Just goes to show, you never know what is gonna happen.

It is feast or famine with the jeep. It goes thru cycles.
I really cannot complain, as it is 17 years old with 200,00 plus miles.

I stay away from Sightmark, the one I had would not hold zero. Granted, it was the lower end sight, but if I am going to spend more money, I will go with a higher quality brand.

I’m more than a little gun shy on sights of any kind. Until I got the Aimpoint Pro, I didn’t know there were any sights that actually held zero. I’ve looked at that Bushnell TRS25 before, but stayed away due to the aforementioned bad experiences. Does it hold zero?

George – as stated I think Sightmark has come a long way but we’ll see. If I don’t like it I’ll replace it. I’ve had a Vortex Strikefire and it was great. The TRS-25 is fantastic and holds zero. I’ve had experience with shooters who will say their optic loses zero and upon investigation find they sighted with .223 and then shoot 5.56. That will certainly move impact point, especially over distance. Same with different brands. Every optic out there will have quality issues – some just more than others. We’ll see with the Sightmark CSR.

JR, when I say loosing zero, I mean not even hitting the paper. Had to move up to 10 feet away just to start working it back in. Then the next time I go shooting, having to do it all over again. A friend of mine had the same experience. Any sight that can keep it on paper between shooting sessions is good enough for me, but having no idea where the shot went when you start your next session is unsatisfactory, and can get you killed. I look forward to hearing what your experience is with the new sight.
