Skills, skills, and more skills. I have so much to learn. I do find sometimes I spend more time writing about preparedness than practicing it although there are times when I do a ton all at once. Plant identification is one area I am severely lacking as well as essential oils.

Pool’s up and fairly level. More than 3,000 gallons of water which can be used for a variety of things. Favorite use? Cooling off of course.

Firearms can be for fun – not just for battle and self-defense. Far too often someone posts up a gun they like or a custom paint job and they are ridiculed for not being “tactical” enough.

My wife runs a part-time business making custom t-shirts, etched glass mugs, and wine glasses, etc. She just made this shirt. You’ll get it if the new fidget spinner craze drives you as mad as it does me…..

If it lists a price or says “read for free” or has a price for Prime members the book is not free anymore.

That pool is Massive!..heh Love the t-shirt.

I strongly believe in essential oils and home remedies. I realize there is a real need for medicine, but we try very hard not to use it as the “go to” right away, every time. There is an adjustment for some people and sometimes it’s to much of an adjustment. The adjustment for home remedies is they don’t always work immediately. They take time. i.e. why pharmaceuticals make a killing. Quick fix, right away.

Home remedy example one: Mayonnaise on a bump. The first time you or a child hits there head somewhere. Put a very thin layer of mayonnaise on it. The bump will go away within 30 seconds. If you wait for longer than a minute it may not work. I’m not sure how or why it works.
My disbelieving self told my wife it would not work and I told her I doubted her. After the third time she put mayo on the bump on one of our babies/children and it went away immediately. I was like, “Sold!”

Home remedy example two: Cut a regular onion into thirds. Take one of those, put it in a bowl, sprinkle a table spoon or two of sugar on it, cover, and seal the onion. After a few hours the sugar will melt the onion and will produce a liquid. Give a table spoon of the liquid to the person coughing and it will give them between 24 and 32 hours relief from the coughing.
We had several occasions where the children were really sick and were taking medicine. We didn’t want to give them more. Of course, disbelieving my wife only took once when she gave this to the kids and they stopped coughing faster than taking any over the counter medicine.

Thanks for the book on essential oils. I’m weak in that area also.

The picture of the dam and Christendom vs Islam is very accurate. The question I have is what can the individual do? I try sending letters to my representatives in DC to no avail. They see us out here in the “hinterlands” as a bunch of uneducated reactionaries who need to be ignored. It’s very frustrating. I’d like to see someone a lot smarter than me pull together a series or even one episode on what to do.

On FB “Herb, Plant and Foraging identification workgroup” is a great resource for plant identification i’ve joined. It’s a public group with over 20k members that help identify posted questions on what photos of an unknown plant. Even though it is worldwide i have been impressed with the assistance given. A post on the home page gives information on how to use.

I am always looking for options for wild-crafting food and would like to find someone locally able to go on a foraging walk during spring/summer/fall to learn more about this. Have some books but hands on is always the best.

Hope to pick up another bucket kit…at either price it’s a good deal, thanks for putting it all together for us.

Have begun collecting Essential Oils for the Library and backing it up. Can’t say I buy some of it.. call me a skeptic. I’ll just have to dig in and convince myself. as Oren said .. try it and it works or it doesn’t. So I’ll try some and have the conventional therapy handy just in case.

On the Dam picture (heh).. Shore it up or stand ready to fight and swim. I expect the latter more than the former. Nothing given freely is fought for until it is taken away, or at least the attempt. Like Franklin said “We give you a Republic. It’s yours if you can keep it”

While we are very familiar with plants in our native Colorado, the move to Louisiana meant EVERYTHING was different. We found a one day course at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Morning spent in class, afternoon spent in the field gathering dinner and learning LOTS. Ended with a meal at the professor’s house made from what we gathered.

Local colleges are a great place to look for this. We were impressed.

We have used homeopathic remedies ,herbs and essential oils as well as vits. and supplements and they DO work but it does take time and REST !!!!
Liquid Vit E will help heal scars and wounds . Go to your library or bookstore and read about Essential oils.An exc. publication Is THE HERB QUARTERLY .It has exc. well written articles and sites for taking on line courses or in person workshops.
I believe its important to combine natural, MDs and prescriptions when urgent and life threatening, homeopathy and general alternative medicine. We have medications on hand for when we need them. Read Dr. Joe Alton – Doom and Bloom.
This also goes for pets and farm animals. L:ightning

Have been using essential oils for the past 5 years. Attended a 4-day class where we learned about different oils and their chemistry (The Chemistry of Essential Oils by David Stewart). Lavender EO may work for one person but not another due to the chemistry of their body being different. The most important thing when using EO’s is to learn about them first. They are very powerful, and like any treatment, can help or if used incorrectly can hurt. Always use a carrier oil until you know how an EO is going to work on your skin. The reference book I carry with me is “Essential Oils Pocket Reference by Life Science Publishing. One last thing, not all EO’s are created equally. Some oils sold at the health store are “watered” down and may only have 1-2 drops of the actual plant oil.

We have an oil kit that contains 5 EO’s and 5 EO blends that I won in a giveaway. I would like to donate to you and your wife for all the work you do on this site. My husband and I live in Tega Cay or we can mail to you if you are interested…
