Interesting that there were several mainstream media outlets including CNN that edited pictures of Florida mass murderer and terrorist Esteban Santiago to remove his Muslim hand sign from pictures.

Let me make this perfectly clear: Although I have promoted the purchase and use of steel case ammunition as a practice cost saving I do not promote their use in a defensive situation. Steel cased ammunition can provide for increased rounds and more training thus better preparation. They are certainly less reliable and somewhat less accurate than their brass-cased relatives. Steel cased = practice. Brass cased = reliability/performance.

My 2017 Gold’s Gym Challenge start got delayed until yesterday due to weather. Spent Sunday prepping food for the week. I truly believe if I stick to my plan I can place. We’ll see. Any success is still success.

Great workout Monday and diet plan went well.

Man get’s a ticket for warming up car in his own driveway.

This is government overreach at its best. Man leaves a car running on his own property and he gets a fine. Insanity.

Picked up three more American Silver Eagle 1 ounce pieces. Folks over at eBay are offering some at very competitive prices. I haven’t posted the weekly “Prep’s This Week” in a bit. Ever since switching to Saturday’s I’ve struggled to remember. Hmmm……maybe another day or every couple weeks.

I won’t use steel cased ammo in any of my high end rifles. I do keep some Wolf around to burn in the old Chinese AK-47 I have. It will eat absolutely anything. I do have concern about the steel cased stuff in my more expensive weapons though and it’s not a worry of fails to fire or accuracy but concern of wear. Brass is much softer and kinder to the chamber, especially in full auto cycle rate.

Capt – there is no doubt that steel does cause wear faster than brass. For those who shoot thousands and thousands of rounds the savings would likely buy you a barrel or two but your 100% correct.

Good point rcoh. I only shoot steel cased in my AK. Never had a problem where I cannot say that in my AR’s. There’s a reason – will write something up.

The guy ticketed for running car in his driveway is all about a rash of people leaving their cars unlocked and stolen a few years ago. If you look in Detroit Free Press archives there were a rash of stolen cars during the winter months, several people were killed during a police chase if memory serves. We have one in the city I work in that’s rarely used. JTR – the law is there “for YOUR safety…”

I’m a little surprised that ammo hasn’t come down more since the election, many magazines and AR part prices are dropping to respectable levels. Over Christmas I was able to get 22 for .06 cents a round in a couple places locally that never had it in stock the last couple of years. I use to only put away steel case for 9mm & 223 for SHTF, now switching to more brass after finding a lot of my non-lacquer coated 223 & 9mm with surface rust forming and the hard facts that the steel cased ammo is loaded weaker then it’s brass counter parts. My Sub-MOA SPR AR15 with 69gr bullets is at best a 2 MOA with steel cased ammo of any bullet weight. For training I’ll still put steel case through the well used ARs and glocks day and night but for self defense use – brass with a quality bonded bullet thank you very much.

Thanks jh. I’ve seen some great prices around here during sales on brass-cased 5.56 and .223. Around $6.49 has not been uncommon. Saw some steel-cased Monarch .223 for under $5.00 a box(my favorite steel cased round). 100 round packs of CCI Mini-Mags I pick up for $8.99 at local shop and they always are in stock. I buy Tula 7.62 x 39 for my AK for $9.95 per 40 rounds – great price – need more.
