The UN, Arms Treaty Agreement, and the World’s Opinion on US and Guns

I see it all the time. People are jeered and chided for mentioning any threat from the UN. Yeah – I understand and agree that 100,000 UN peacekeepers are not going to come over here and invade the United States. It’s insanity to think that would be a possibility. There are scenarios where the UN and other foreign troops could enter the United States in an “assistance” role. Well – that is for another post.

Much was written a couple years ago about the United States Secretary of State signing the Arms Trade Treaty. While propaganda spread talking of the UN banning firearm ownership here in the US the reality is the treaty was never ratified by Congress and holds absolutely no power or authority. What this treaty has done is provide insight to what the rest of the world’s leaders think of the United States and its citizens lure towards firearm ownership.

This past August at the Second Conference of States Parties to the ATT several world leaders remarked on the United States’s ability to access firearms. Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs H.E. Claudia Ruiz Massieu stated “it is easier to acquire a firearm than a liter of milk or a box of cereal.”  She also praised “the tenacious and sincere efforts of President Barack Obama to establish administrative measures to strengthen controls on the possession and sale of weapons” and calling on the U.S. Congress to “ban the sale of assault weapons.”  She went on to state that upwards of 70% of the weapons used to commit crimes in Mexico are sourced one way or another from the United States.

No doubt that many on the Liberal-side of the political aisle would agree with her.

I’m not suggesting that we have to fear the UN. All I am pointing out is the vast majority of the rest of the world looks at the United States and detests our 2nd Amendment and the freedom it provides. The United States needs to continue to stand as a beacon of freedom and liberty – and anyone who shall challenge or try to take that away should be quickly put in their place.

I couldn’t agree more. I get tired of people referring to anyone who questions the UN as being part of the “tin foil hat crowd” or a ‘conspiracy theorist”. The simple fact is most of the U.N’s membership is made up of thugs, tyrants, communist, socialist, muslim, or other “collectivist” types. They all want the U.S. to crumble. The bottom line is being part of the U.N. does not serve our best interest, we should just get out. The John Birch Society has been saying this for years, and they are right, in my opinion.

You may recall that when Obama took office the narrative was that 90% of Mexico’s gun problems where sourced from the US and the Fast & Furious program’s purpose was reinforce that narrative. It, along with today’s 70/80% figure has long been discredited. I won’t go into the metrics here but it’s easy enough to find. Even the fed’s own data disprove the fear mongering. I also know that facts matter little to an easily manipulated populace….but methinks the populace isn’t as easily manipulated as once thought……

Many say that we should get out of the UN. I see that as a very hard sell. My observation and suggestion, weather mine or I heard it from someone a while ago, is first that we give way too much money to too many anti-American countries through the UN. In turn, these same anti-American countries repeatedly vote against us on UN sanctions, policies and initiatives. My suggestion is that we give money to all countries we currently do in direct proportion to the percent they vote with us in the UN. So, if a country who currently now receives $1 billion dollars annually from us but only votes 30% with us would now get $300 million annually. A country who currently gets $1 Billion dollars annually from us but votes 90% with us would now get $900 million annually. I think if anyone could do this it would be President Trump. I feel we still need NATO. Let’s focus more on the UN money hole and how to fix that. Just my 2.5 cents worth. Myke

Mr Soetoro (aka Obama) and Eric Holder did indeed send a lot of weapons into Mexico in a scheme to undermine our 2nd Amendment.
I have for many years said that we should remove ourselves from the UN. I know that is unlikely to happen but in the very least we should stop providing the overwhelmingly lion’s share of the funding. I hope to see some measures made in that direction under the Presidency of Donald Trump.
