I don’t currently own a revolver, though, I have had several. One of the best concealed carry options is a revolver made specifically for concealed carry. These revolvers often have no exposed hammers or have a “bobbed” hammer that will not catch on clothing. These are fairly slim and extremely simple to operate – and reliable.
I’ve had an opportunity to get some trigger time behind several versions of the Ruger LCR. I’ve walked away each time with a smile and an admiration for the small pistol. I still do not own one but hope to come across a decent deal at some point. I’ve shot them in .357 Magnum, .38 Special, and .22 Magnum. My favorite was .22 Magnum. The LCR is a hybrid design that combines modern polymers with aluminum in its construction allowing for a lighter firearm than all-steel builds. For someone who carries frequently, the lower weight would be welcomed.
One of the biggest drawbacks to carrying a revolver like the LCR over something….say….like the Glock 19 – capacity. Holding 5-6 rounds it pales in comparison to many mid-size. and even newer sub-compacts.
Hey – options are a wonderful thing!
The sheer number of options we have today for self-defense and sport is a wonderful thing. One question that always comes to mind……
How long will these options exist?
Take care all –
Rourke
John, I’ve carried an older S&W model 36 for decades, five shots only yes, but it use semiwad cutters in it. My only complaint is the hammer wears holes in my shirt eventually. An old gun store owner once told me if I needed more than six rounds I shouldn’t have been there, that unfortunately is not so true anymore.
Rourke- why do you not own a pistol ? Arlene
Arlene – I own several – just not a revolver at the moment.
This is an age-old question! Kind of like do you keep using a first gen NVD or get a second or third generation. To use body armor or not. Technoloy changes and we need to be able to keep up with those changes. We are seeing how the introduction of newer technology weapons in Ukraine have given this underdog a fighting chance against a larger enemy. The Russians were going to take the capitol in 3 days, but now they are being bleed to death by a thousand cuts.
Also, the old saying because that is what “I have always used” is not an acceptable answer any longer, it’s a cop out. You need to be running the most current weapons platform supported by good training. Otherwise, the odds of our failure in a critical moment will be greatly increased when faced with an equal opponent, whose only advantage is they have better tech. While I love my 19x, I am adding a Glock with an RDS, because this is where I need to go to remain competitive along with my Gen 3 WP NVD. Remember there is no such thing as rules when your life or the life a loved one is at stake, only the winner’s version of the events. Do not be the victim, cheat at every opportunity. Remember our toolbox (gun safe) has many different tools in it because no one tool will work in every situation. Keep a large toolbox, and skill sets to use those tools. Stay safe, things are starting to get rocky.
