Budget Friendly Preparedness Tips – $10 Per Week

It’s been two weeks since my last post as things have been extremely busy. Hey – life happens.

While the economy is strong and unemployment is at record low levels there are many people that continue to struggle. While stats and data can be manipulated to prove almost anything, the fact remains that wages in 2019 reached the same point which they were all the way back in 1973. This is, of course, taking inflation and the Consumer Price Index in consideration. The point is regardless of all the positive economic news millions of Americans struggle to not only live week to week – but the challenge to actually prepare for uncertain times seems impossible.

Seconds make minutes. Minutes make hours. Hours make days. Days make the month. Do a little each week and after a short time progress has occurred.

Here are a few “$10 per week or less” budget-friendly preparedness tips:

  • A few cans of soup, fruit, or vegetables
  • Create a digital preparedness library with inexpensive USB drives
  • Box of 9mm ammunition(can be found under $10 commonly)
  • Large bag of rice
  • Flashlight
  • Extra batteries for flashlights and radio’s
  • Candles
  • Fleece blanket
  • Make copies of all important papers such as insurance,
  • Cases of water and/or several gallon jugs
  • Buy 4 pounds of spaghetti and 2 cans of spaghetti sauce
  • A few jars of peanut butter – store in freezer
  • Grab a 5 pack of Bic lighters
  • Watch Youtube videos on different knots and practice
  • Buy a few military-type can openers
  • Pick up some cotton balls and petroleum jelly at the dollar store
  • 100 rounds of .22LR ammunition
  • Pick up several solar garden lights
  • Purchase a tarp or two at Harbor Freight
  • Duct tape

The list is endless.

Take a look at what supplies you have in the categories of food, water, defense, shelter, and medical and focus on the weakest areas first. A little bit at a time adds up and can make a big difference in the long run.

OK folks – what would you recommend?

Food. You do not have enough food stored. After you take care of your immediate needs, think about the needs of those close family/friends who may end up depending on your foresight to survive.

I don’t go for that buying cases of water. It cost and quality foolish. Get a Berkey water purification system and have no further worries and be many dollars ahead while drinking healthier water. As hurricane Dorian tracks in on my state I’m thankful for my blessings.

Each day, one of my e-stops is BisonPrepper James M Dakin.

Although I strongly recommend against consuming grains, he is stocking 50# bags of oat and wheat from feed-stores. Prior to cooking (with petroleum-based fuels…), he grinds them in steps using hand-grinders.

BisonPrepper lives near Elko Nevada… not my first choice because everything there depends on petroleum-based shipping.

    My recommendation:
Wean from a petroleum-based televisionprogramming eater life.
Grow into a fresh local seasonal organic producer life.

Today, I explored C-Head, the home-built composting toilet system for farms, RVs, and boats. It makes a lot of sense!

The comment request was for common sense suggestions for items that would help us all for ten dollars a week, not a disjointed rant about some imagined environmental problem!!
Dollar Store for good stuff. If you don’t mind driving a petroleum powered car.
      Good Grief!

    Beans, bullets, and bandages.
That simple in that order, except it’s exactly like firewood, gather until your tired and have a huge pile! Then double it! Then decide how you feel about watching your family, friends, and love ones starving to death and with that thought plan accordingly!
