For the past few years, many have looked at 2020 as the pinnacle point in the near future. Why? I suspect it’s not due to it being a leap year.
Back in November of 2016 many on both sides of the political aisle looked at 2020 as a significant year. If Donald J. Trump turned out to horrible for the country we only needed to wait four years to vote him out. It’s obvious that for most of us who value the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the foundational values which this country was founded believe things have gone much better than expected. No – Trump is not a savior nor would anyone argue he is a good example of morality. The outcome of his first three years speaks for themselves.
For many preparedness-minded folks who were so focused and prepared with an unrelenting fervor due to the certainty that Killary would be victorious – the outcome of the election allowed a giant sigh of relief. I’ve been highly critical of those who allowed this breather to extend beyond 2017.
We approach 2020 and this country is relishing in low unemployment, growing wages, record-breaking markets, and what appears to be a growing sense of unity and patriotism within its populace. Depending on your source of news it can appear things just can’t get any better. Having this perspective would be a terrible mistake. While being positive and hopeful is admirable – being prudent and realistic pays dividends.
I remember reading the adage above in my teenage years and it stuck. While the focus of this narrative thus far encompasses politics and the intense disarray in this country, there are many more reasons to prepare than the threat of civil war.
Talking to others who are immensely concerned with the direction this country is heading has all of them focussed on November of 2020. While only a few have suggested that they expect some sense of unrest immediately following the election(regardless of the outcome) – all believe that civil unrest and regional domestic conflict is just a matter of time.
November of 2020. A Liberal Democrat Socialist wins. The country will head down one possible path.
November of 2020: Donald J. Trump wins. The country will head down another possible path.
Regardless of the outcome, the events to follow are as uncertain as who will win in 2024(if there’s an election).
Prepare. Be deliberate.

Good thoughts JR. I’m surprised not more people aren’t heeding the warnings. Talk to people all the time and they are convinced that the Government, Military and Police will take care of them. They just don’t get it. They see no concern for food or supplies or services, they assume there will never be a disruption. They can’t fathom a mom or dad robbing or killing for their kids survival. I can completely understand. That is why I prepare and encourage my adult kids, older grandchildren and friends and coworkers to always be ready. Guns for various purposes, ammo to fit, water storage, several ways to purify water, multiple types of food, multiple cooking methods, and of course the list goes on and on. Will you hook up with a small group, large group, family only group? So many things to think about and so very little time to accomplish it. I would plead with everyone to set down, contemplate, make a plan and then start working it. Be wise for the times are short and evil.
– Keep Looking Up
The whole political scene worries me, along with the increase in mindless vandalism and disrespect for others. I moved into my dream house last year, but I wound up letting the son have most of my supplies as he set up housekeeping on his own. I knew that I’d have a better chance of building up my stores than he would. Unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with extensive health problems for months now and had to quit my job. Family money is keeping me going, but there’s nothing extra, and it worries me that I’m no longer prepared for anything. Between the threat of impeachment and the supporters of Socialism, I’m not going to rest easy until I can build those stores back up.
Normalcy Bias is so very dangerous to personal preparedness. To many people keep their heads in the sand and refuse to acknowledge any possibility of the serious problems that are headed our way.
If there is a major national collapse it will become difficult to get and stay prepared.
The ensuing chaos will spread like a wildfire and it will likely be every man for himself.
Do what you can while you can. Good luck God Bless to all.
Advice please
Rourke and readers: What is the brightest flashlight that you recommend ?
Thanks. Arlene

I have several of the Coast flashlights and they have worked great. I sunk one in a glass of water for an entire day and it did not leak. The level of brightness is up to you. I like lights anywhere from 130 – 300. Once you get above a true 300-lumen flashlight using indoors can be too bright as the light can reflect off white walls, mirrors, and picture frame glass. Coast lights are fairly inexpensive.
Hope you are doing well!!!
Thanks Rourke for responding so quickly. I will check out Coast lights and say you referred me. Arlene
