For the Recce Rifle project, an upper has been selected. MidState Firearms manufactures top-of-the-line AR accessories. I’ve built several rifles using their uppers and they have been more than excellent.
Below is their 16″ MSF Specter .223 Wylde AR-15 Upper. It comes with a 12″ Gen3 Slim Rail which free-floats.

My recce rifle upper is nearly the same. 1/8 twist loves the 68-77gr ammo especially out at 300-450 yards. I topped mine at first with a 1-4 vortex pst but I replaced it with a swampfox 1-8 lpvo and love it! I Also put a A1 stock on it taking off the retractable. I want a constant point of reference when I shoulder it and think it is lighter than a retractable stocks that are out there today.
