Thoroughly enjoying this series. The fast pace is perfect, getting the story across without wasting the reader's time using tedious descriptions of what we already know. Characters are easy to identify with, as well as even get attached to. The truly best part of this series is all of the knowledge it imparts whether you're a seasoned prepper, survivalist, or not, there is definitely much to be learned from this story. If for no other reason than to understand humanity during a crisis. I highly recommend it!

Sorry Lisa ,just using your titles to make a point. I think in this genre of books ,too often books by female writers are compared and contrasted books written by men. I read the first book in the SHTF series and liked it enough to buy the second book. I liked the second book more than the first. The author spends time to develop her characters so you get to know them "warts and all" I ,personally would prefer even more character development so my hate/disgust with a character feels real to me as does my concern/ hope for other characters.
During my reading of the first book a sensed a tiny bit of political "stuff" but really not enough to turn me off.
I'm a Democrat that dislikes big government and a liberal that proudly owns several firearms.
So don't pay much attention to those folks that are writing reviews that insinuate that these books are written to support our EX President cause it just ain't so.
I like her characters (well some of them) and I really like the way she writes.

Note: I have never given a book 5 stars because I have never read (and probably never will) the perfect book.

I enjoyed this book as well as the previous one ( Fight Like a Man: A Post-Apocalyptic Thriller (The SHTF Series Book 1) ).

These are not your typical SHTF books, in that the characters are not ultra-rich allowing them to have 10 times more stuff than they will ever need and are not super special forces ninjas that can kill everyone, and never make mistakes.

Instead, you have characters that are common everyday people that have prepared (or thought they were prepard) for a catastrophie.
The make mistakes, do things that they should know better to do, and generally, in my opinion, present situations that are more likely to be the norm if a catastrophie actually occurs.

A few of the things I really like about the way this author writes are:
1. The characters are more real and believable in their behavior, thoughts, and preparedness than in many other books in this genre
2. Their is no constant preaching to the reader about religion or politics like many other books in this genre
3. The author does not try to prove how much they know by detailing every item the character uses or sees to the point that it detracts from the story.
4. Their is some good information for the user in regards to SHTF uses of everyday products, but not to the point that that it gets in the way of the story.
5. Their are enough details about people/places/things to make the scene/story work, but not so much that it interferes with the story.

Because of the things listed above, these books are a fun, enjoyable and easy read.

I am looking forward to the third book in the series, if for no other reason to see if the characters grow in the way they think and the decisions they make.

After having purchased and read over 200 novels in prepper fiction apocalypse/dystopian genre this the second book is great one of my all time best reads. For several reasons the heartwarming grandma and practical approach to dealing with prisoners. The coping with trauma in the main character and the realism that those from countries where there has been corruption and conflict does tend to produce hardy people who will cope with a collapse scenario better than softer spoilt westerners. As for spoilers they serve more to wet the appetite and enhance the flow of the story allowing you to see a little down the road in anticipation. Can’t wait to read next instalment.

Book one was okay and I liked the characters. Book two is an insult. The author finishes every second chapter with a spoiler. The worst part is, he doesn’t even get those right. The first book had the same thing and when the second book finally gets to that spoiler, it’s not. This guy is a piece of work. It says that he is a real life prepper. I call bull dust. This guy is a wannabe.

My biggest problem is his continuing spoilers. I probably should have known better after reading the prologue of the first book. Will I buy the third novel? Not a chance.
