When considering firearms for survival & preparedness – and the American Reformation – the shotgun is not often highly rated. Maybe they are just not as exciting as the latest AR/Glock/1911. One thing they are is incredibly versatile. Slugs can reach out and say “Hi!” or bust through a barrier and provide an introduction. Buckshot can send a devastating barrage of multiple projectiles downrange with a forgiving margin of accuracy. Birdshot can take small game……and so on.

I had a youngman have a complete freak out meltdown when he found out i was a conservative, i remained calm but he couldnt even articulate intelligently as i pointed out Hillery and her DNC curruption and the Obama admin curruption. He took a few steps toward me but didnt invade my space. Am thinking are you serious!, i could put you in the hospital in a heart beat. You can’t even have a conversation with these poeple, oh and get this, this young man didnt even vote, am thinking then shut the frak up. Sorry, just had to get this off my chest.
On a similar note, a young black customer of mine told me that his household has lost most of their friends because he voted for Trump. The others didn’t vote at all.

I don’t know why the shotgun has lost favor, other than it just doesn’t look cool. I carried one most of my life in the military, police and as a defense contractor. There is nothing better in my opinion for close in urban combat and an 870 is my go to weapon for home defense.

870 .12 or .20 ga with 18 1/2″ barrel & youth stock. Nice little item to have in the bedroom at night. #4 or 00, but thats like arguing 9mm or .45. Not a large investment and fairly easy to train people on. Had Remington & Mossberg as security for years in Navy.
All good points. Agree in the #4 versus 00.Cost is certainly a benefit when it comes to shotguns.
All guns have a better application for their purpose.. but can be used for others even if less effectively. In my mind I’m a 3 if not 4 gun guy.. the fourth being long range (defined 600 – 800 yds). So you might trade off one for the other depending on what you are doing and how far you travel etc.. If I could only pick one it would be a shotty and just carry several loads.. The disadvantage is that the ammunition is heavy.. I’d still carry two regardless personally at a minimum.
