Went to the range Saturday and did some shooting with the Freedom Ordnance FX-9 9mm carbine I recently acquired. Shot a little over 100 rounds – not a lot – and so far no problems. I mounted a Walther red dot I had lying around and it was almost right-on-the-money and only required minimal adjustment. After that knocking down steel plates was easy.

Going to get a few compatible magazines from different manufacturers and see how they do.

Pistol caliber carbines are so fun!!

This is one lucky guy. A black bear charges him while he is stalking with a recurve bow. While many would suggest this is a perfect example of why to carry a sidearm I suspect there was no way the hunter had time to draw prior to the attack once the bear charged. Regardless, a Glock 20 in 10mm would be my carry choice in these areas – and a companion who is slower than me.

I recently finished a great prepper fiction book – Locker Nine: A Novel of Societal Collapse. It was unique in that the main character is a college-age female. This should be especially attractive to women prepper’s as generally main characters in these books are “manly men”. Great story with some pretty colorful characters that make for a lot of entertainment. One of my favorite aspects of Locker Nine is how the girl’s father prepared her for an emergency situation via a cache of supplies. You just have to read it to appreciate.

There are many reasons why so many love their Kindle and Amazon Fire tablets. One huge advantage is you could literally go years without every buying a book to read as there are tons of free eBooks available. Don’t have a Kindle or Fire? No problem. There are apps that can be installed on most any cell phone or computer for free. No excuses!

NOTE: If you see a free preparedness eBook that you’re interested in get it now. Prices change often and there is no way to tell how long the book will remain free. Before purchasing a free Kindle book on Amazon make certain the book is still free by making sure the price is $0.00. If it lists a price or says “read for free” or has a price for prime members the book is not free anymore.
