The false alert of an incoming ballistic missile in Hawaii was certainly alarming – and embarrassing. What basically amounted to the push of a wrong button sent countless in panic mode seeking shelter. A good reminder though to have a plan – always.
Where to go? The family is away from each other who will get who? If normal communication goes down is there a backup plan? Lots of questions to ask now and get the answer before something bad happens.

Started working on the book edits. I have to go in and approve each individual edit manually so I can better learn how to write better. Time-consuming but valuable. Once the edits are complete the rewriting will begin. Focus: Book One of the trilogy. Need a new name as well. Hmmm……

Thoughts on Cast Iron Cookware: I’ve been using Lodge cast iron for years and love it. My problem is I don’t take care of them. Rust shows up and I have to scrub it off and oil it up. With a little care, they can last forever. A standard 12″ Lodge skillet is my favorite size.

So you want to make an EMP Proof Galvanized Trash Can? One thing that has to be done is to line the trash can to ensure no metal can touch the contents. One trick to line it with rolls of toilet paper. That way you have a storage of toilet paper AND EMP protection.

JR: I asked this in an earlier post, but probably wasn’t viewed by many, because the post had been out for awhile Anyway, in an earlier post you or someone else mentioned a made for tv movie. I think “The Child” was part of the title, but not sure. It was about a new teacher in a grade school who was teaching the kids to pledge to the state, not the flag, She was subtly changing the kids minds about what should be important to them. It was on youtube. I went back thru many posts but couldn’t find it again. Any help from anyone would be appreciated. thanks,

Sparse writing. Clear character development prior to start of story. Although period appropriate, actress Mildred Dunnick deserved an Emmy for over-acting.
PS:
How can a story start before the story starts? The initiating incident is explained by action instead of a spoken prologue…
For example, the first line of a story could be:
“She walked into the kitchen, and there was a corpse on the counter!”
In The Children’s Story, ‘the war’ is over. With that little problem solved, the winners gain control of hearts and minds.
Trivia:
Cavell wrote that story after his 6-year old comes home from the government school with a troubling assignment. Twenty years later, that daughter portrays the replacement teacher from the war ‘winners’.

The Hawaii thing shouldn’t have happened, but I hope they use this as a wake-up call. I’ve read that they’re holding regular drills there but don’t have any shelters. What’s the good of a warning system if there’s nowhere to go? Hopefully, it’s also a wake-up call to the mainland, too, particularly the ones who think that “duck and cover” is just a mindless activity from Grandpa’s childhood.

Unfortunate that Hawaii and vacationing folks had to go through this stressful situation. I do hope that they use this episode to develop a course of action to help themselves as it appears the gov. can’t or won’t.
Our group imitated our “Alert SOP” at the first notice received, even though we are located a long way from Hawaii. Communications was set up and all group members contacted, notifications made and all protocols developed through the years were set in motion. If nothing else it proved to be a real life situation test and not just a practice or drill for us. A lot was learned and a few bugs are presently being addressed, however I feel a lot better about how each member reacted and the capabilities of our group.
Lets hope we never have to deal with this situation.

Re : cast iron. Rub it with vegetable or olive oil after you are done. Add some salt and it
really helps it clean up[ and stay nice.
The concept that any living thing will be safe during a nuclear blast is quite unrealistic.
