People over complicate and over analyze survival and preparedness all the time.
Someone says they prefer “this” gun and they are immediately attacked about how they are wrong. Someone likes WISE foods for food storage – yup, they are idiotic because some website said WISE isn’t as good as Brand X. Have “this” knife in your bug out bag? Hell, you might as well not even have a bug out bag.
Everyone needs to make their own decisions and evaluate their own situations.
Discussion and exchanging ideas is fine. Often it isn’t what is said but how it’s said.

I can remember as a kid I would rub Vick’s under my nose and on my chest when I was sick. I grew to love that smell. I also remember Baby Apririn. Loved the taste of those things.

You use Vicks? Heck you may as well just die… Yah just kidding folks. I just slathered it on my 9 year olds chest last night and then gave the bottle to my daughter (she does her own applications)
I agree whole heartedly about people not respecting each others right to have an opinion. I am teaching a class in three weeks about Emergency Preparedness in church, and the whole “Personalizing your Preps” is a huge part of it. While I do believe in standardization you have to have what works for YOU.

Great post…when I was a newbie prepper, I followed the teaching of a prepping group on what needs to be in your preps. Well after many years of wasting money, throwing out food that we did no eat or like, and educating myself on what works for me and my family, I agree 100% with Rourke!!
About Vicks, had a friend who was a helicopter door gunner during Nam. Told how lots of times they were carrying our dead back from the front and used it under his nose to cover up the stench. Thats all I remember every time I see that blue container.
The infighting happens because there is a large amount of Type A personalities in the preparedness community. They just can’t be wrong about anything and you must listen to them and only them. One of the biggest flaws of the whole movement.
We still use Vicks today on that rare occasion start getting the sniffles. We just bought a bunch of antibacterial wipes, cold/flu medicine, gatorade and good toilet paper with aloe – cheaper than buying those boxes of facial tissues to blow the nose to add to the Flu kit.
Brad M. You’re spot on with “what works for you”. Buddy of mine prep group broke up because they were so stuck on everything must be group standard. I mean, even down to everyone had to have a couple sets of multicam, same winter boots etc. It was pretty ridiculous.
OMG..if you only had one of those muzzle breaks for an AK, I so get one. Otherwise I’m out of luck. Sigh :o(
